Why Invest on A wallet to Thwart Pickpockets?
I admit, I don’t use a wallet right now. My money is located at several different places in my bag: pockets, purses, and even places I don’t know I put them in. My identification cards are stashed away somewhere in there too. I haven’t had one since my beautiful, beloved wallet was stolen.
One of the most terrible things I have experienced is being a victim of pickpockets. Yes, I live in the most livable highly urbanized city in the Philippines with less than 1% monthly crime rate, and yet I fell victim to a pickpocket.
Two years ago, I was playing DotA at my favorite gaming cafe. My bag was right beside me and there were less than 20 other players in the cafe. I felt safe because I played there almost every night and everybody knew me. Several of my friends were actually seated and also playing DotA near me.
But when the time for me to pay arrived, my wallet, along with everything else in it was gone. I lost my money which I had just withdrawn in preparation for a trip to Manila that I was about to take. More importantly, I lost ALL my identification cards, my ATM card, and many other pieces of information that I had.
It was such a hassle going from one office to another, one bank to another to get affidavits, recover my bank information, flagging down my lost cards, and getting new cards.
And the most exasperating thing? You will hear this over and over again: “You need an ID to get an ID.” LOL! But it’s not that funny once you hear it and you have totally no identification card whatsoever.
And yes, it was hard to accept that the money I had worked hard for was gone. And my bag and my beloved wallet WAS JUST BESIDE ME THE ENTIRE TIME! That was very sad and frustrating!!!
Recently, my friend, who lives in the same apartment complex as I was, also fell victim to a pickpocket. She was just walking from the coffee shop to the apartment. It was just one block. And right outside our gate, BOOM! A motorcycled guy snatched away her purse wallet. Along with her money and her cards. She is still going through the same hassle as I experienced in recovering her bank information and obtaining identification cards.
Imagine experiencing all this while you are not in your own city or place? What would you do? No money. No ATM cards. No checkbook. No identification cards or documents. Imagine that!
So yes, do invest in a wallet to twart pickpockets. I would.
And while I’m considering buying that, I would also like this:
It’s the PacSafe TourSafe Travel Tote. It’s cute but roomy enough for all your travelling essentials. More importantly, it keeps everything inside safe. Including your wallet. It has an eXomesh® Slashguard body, slashproof shoulder straps, a snatchproof shoulder strap, and a tamperproof zipper. It keeps your wallet, your passport, and even your kikay kit away from those pickpockets and snatchers.
Invest in sturdy wallets and bags with safety features so you can have the peace of mind of not constantly worrying about your things while you’re travelling. You’ll enjoy seeing the views, tasting the flavors, savoring the smells, shopping for new finds, and meeting new people even more.
And look cute while you’re at it.
