Don’t be fashionable. Be stylish. Use fashion trends as a guide for your own style, but don’t wear anything you’d be embarrassed about in 10 years or so. One of my style icons is Agot Isidro. She wears fashionable items which fit her style and still look good after a decade or so.
With this in mind, I’d like to share a look I wore 2 years ago during a poker tournament. The moment I saw this blue violet dress in the racks of SOUL Lifestyle, I fell in love with it. It’s a short lace dress with a singed waist. The loose top part fits me perfectly since it hides my tummy bulges. And the singed waist emphasizes my lovely waist. I do love dresses with singed waistlines.
Lace is not usually a material I choose to wear since it’s too girly or feminine. The color of the dress, however, was… and is still so me. I loved blue for the longest time. And now I love purple as well. So this was a no-brainer for my style.
I toughened up the look a bit more by wearing a long metal necklace with black and gold chains. The black chains matched my naturally jet black hair. While the gold gave the look just the right accent. I wore this look with black heels and a black handbag.
Here’s me with another lady poker player:
*Pardon the lack of make up and the unruly hair. I discovered the magic of make up and salons shortly after this.*
Lace and metal is not usually the combination I’d go for, but the color of the lace dress suited me just fine. So yeah, I broke away from my style a bit, but it was still so me. This was actually the beginning of me exploring my inner stylista.
How about you? Can you pull off lace with metal?
