My First Techie Gadget

Posted by Ria Shoppingera on May 7, 2006.

I recently bought a laptop! Well, I actually took out a parental loan to buy it even though it will take me a gazillion years to pay. Hint, hint to the powers that be….phink needs a raise!!! Anyway, even though I’m buried in debt, at least now I don’t have to wait in line to use a computer. My only problem now is that my office does not have wifi. Hmmm…where do all our taxes go?

I was scandalized to learn that I had to pay a hundred bucks at Starbucks to get wifi for 50 minutes!!! It was a good thing that I used my thinking cap and started scouting the area for wifi …I actually found one. To all those sick and tired of paying for wifi, the restaurants in front of the Rustan’s Fresh in rockwell have free wifi…

Anyway, I keep getting distracted from the main topic — my new laptop. My cousins thought I was crazy when I started hinting that I needed a laptop. Of all people, I was and am, one of the least high tech person in the world! Gadgets scare me for some reason. Computers are sometimes just too unpredictable…how ironic isn’t it? Or is it moronic? After almost a month of owning one, I just learned how to update my anti-virus…after much prep from my cousin who I feel is about to give up teaching me the basics of computer upkeep. I have yet to defrag, which my boyfriend keeps nagging me to do. Maybe some other time…updating my anti-virus is enough tech stuff for one day for a techiephobe.

I hope to have a long and phinkertastic relationship with my laptop (heck its just too expensive to ignore and not use)…I’m just crossing my fingers that I don’t do anything stupid and send it prematurely to “laptop heaven.” By the way, I forgot to mention that my laptop’s name is dellia and she’s very phink…hehehe….

P.S. For the kuripot at heart, buy laptops abroad…its cheaper there…

nice blog :) I landed on your blog when I was searching for ukay-ukay ^_^

Anyway, try using iPIG (http://iopus.com/ipig) when trying out those hotspots. Madaming hackers sa paligid ligid ;) And for defragging, just defrag your computer at least every 3-6 months. Keep your antivirus patterns up-to-date. Yun lang po. Enjoy your new tech gadget ;)

That’s the main reason why I bought a netbook too, so I could use the WiFi at our office too – for free!
ooh, have you tried buying laptops abroad? Alam ko kasi you have to pay big amount pa for the taxes!
